The name's James, but everyone calls me Jacko, or nojacko when online.

I'm a web developer from Leicester who loves travelling, snowboarding, music, gaming, cigars, amongst countless other things. I graduated from the University of Leicester with a degree in Computer Science, B.Sc. (Hons). Minimalism & science are my cults.

Projects & Work

Automated Twitter bot tweeting the price of Bitcoin every 30 minutes to around 5,000 followers.

The companion site for @ThePriceBTC, ThePriceBTC.com includes news from the Bitcoin community. It's powered by my own Twitter news tracker which constantly follows 5,000 of the most influential Twitter users in the Bitcoin community in real-time. It aggregates and ranks the links they share to bring you the most popular and up-to-date Bitcoin news.

Alexa Skill: Crypto Prices

Say "Alexa, ask crypto prices the price of bitcoin" and Crypto Prices will tell you! Not just bitcoin, but almost any crypto currency or asset. Crypto Prices was created when I saw Amazon giving away free Echo Dots and Alexa socks. Now that I have my Echo Dot (I love it!) I'm going to expand Crypto Prices to provide custom news flashes for user's crypto portfolio.

Bitcoin Bot

A bot made to trade bitcoins. It did make a profit whilst trading but due to changes to the exchange I was using, I discontinued it.

Development Skills

I am full-stack web-developer working mostly with PHP, JavaScript/Node, HTML & CSS. Like most developers, I work use a plethora of programming languages, technologies, platforms, systems, frameworks, libraries and methodologies. It's impossible to list everything.

I aim for readable, maintainable, testable and object-oriented code, subscribing to SOLID, DRY, KISS (all of which go hand in hand with minimalism) and 12 Factor.

I love travelling. Over the years I've been to 15 countries (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, and United States of America), 5 continents (Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America), and I've swum in 3 oceans (Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian).

My longer trips...

Australia (2006)
I travelled from Cairns to Brisbane during the summer of 2006. Highlights of the trip include snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef and skydiving over & landing on Rainbow beach. On the way home I spent several nights in Hong Kong.

USA (2013)
Starting in Florida, I travelled across the USA for 6 months by buses, planes, trains and automobiles to 48 of 50 states (all except Hawaii and Alaska). I also spent about a week in Canada exploring Vancouver (British Columbia), visiting a friend in Lethbridge (Alberta) and a single night in Niagara Falls (Ontario).

European Horizons (2017)
Starting in London, a 10 day, whirlwind, Contiki bus tour to Amsterdam, Rhine Valley, Munich, Tyrol (Austria), Venice, Lucerne, Swiss Alps, and Paris... before heading back to London in time for tea.
